Hedy Jo Star’s life journey began as little Carl Hammonds in Prague, Oklahoma, eventually taking her from the East Coast to the West Coast, to Canada, and Europe. The famous and beloved Hedy Jo finally made her way back to America where she settled in Las Vegas, Nevada until her last breath in 1999.
 

There are few people from the Mid-Century entertainment or costume industry who have never heard of the name or had the pleasure of meeting HEDY JO STAR. Starting as a young adult, she traveled with famous circus’ designing and crafting glamorous and original costumes for herself and fellow circus performers, eventually finding her niche designing for exotic dancers, Burlesque Performers, Show Girls and a multitude of other entertainers and actors throughout her years.  

 

Within the pages of this book, Hedy Jo, and the beautiful people she worked with, will showcase her truly one-of-a-kind gowns and costumes. Hedy Jo Star also carries the prestige of being the true first sex change performed in the United States of America. Much debate surrounds this claim, however, the operation, performed at the Methodist Hospital of Memphis, Tennessee in June of 1962, for the first time ever will be proven via medical records finally shared to the public within this book. I am honored to say; her medical records are intact and, in my possession, as of the date of this publication.
